Framed Vintage Record Album Cover – The Day Manolete Was Killed
Manuel Laureano RodrÃguez Sánchez (4 July 1917 – 29 August 1947), better known as Manolete, was a Spanish bullfighter. He is considered by some to be the greatest bullfighter of all time. He died following a goring in the right upper leg as he killed the fifth bull of the day, the Miura bull Islero, an event that left Spain in a state of shock. Manolete received his fatal goring in the town of Linares where he appeared alongside the up-and-coming matador Luis Miguel DominguÃn, who, after Manolete's death, proclaimed himself to be number one. In response to Manolete's death, General Francisco Franco, then dictator of Spain, ordered three days of "national mourning", during which only funeral dirges were heard on the radio.
Barnaby Conrad (March 27, 1922 - February 12, 2013) was an American artist and author. While living in Spain, he studied bullfighting with Juan Belmonte, Manolete, and Carlos Arruza. He is the only American male to have fought in Spain, Mexico and Peru. Conrad wrote and narrated the story on The Day Manolete Was Killed LP. Ironically, in 1958, Conrad was gored almost fatally in a bullfight that was part of a charity event.

This record is a narrative with the flamenco guitar of Juan Buckingham.
